New Honda HR-V Vs. CR-V: Ultimate Guide To 2026's Best Compact SUVs

Banner Image

When comparing the Honda CR-V vs. HR-V, you'll find that each of these small SUV siblings fills a unique role in the Honda lineup. While you may see more premium benefits in one model, another key area usually balances out the comparison. The CR-V is slightly bigger, faster, and stronger, but it is no match for the affordability or agility of the HR-V. The better SUV depends solely on your personal preferences and lifestyle needs.

To help you decide which of these crossover SUVs is a better fit, we've assembled this helpful guide on how the specs, safety, and comfort features measure up side-by-side. Let our Bravo Honda team walk you through this CR-V vs. HR-V comparison.

Key Takeaways From Our 2026 Honda CR-V vs. 2026 Honda HR-V Guide

  • 2026 Honda CR-V: More power, stronger towing, larger cargo space, additional amenities, and multiple powertrain options
  • 2026 Honda HR-V: Lower starting MSRP, better city maneuverability, popular with younger and first-time SUV drivers
  • Both: Standard Honda Sensing safety suite and upgraded features for 2026
  • The Honda CR-V offers gas and hybrid power, while the HR-V is a gas-only model

What's New For 2026? Honda CR-V vs. HR-V Comparison

Considering a new Honda CR-V or HR-V? If you're shopping for a 2026 model, you may be wondering what's changed from the previous model year.

When compared to the 2025 Honda HR-V, the 2026 model year brings in exciting new upgrades that include refreshed interior and exterior styling details, as well as upgraded tech. This sport-ute now comes with a standard 9-inch touchscreen display, standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, a wireless phone charger, and a host of exterior updates like new wheel options and standard rear privacy glass, among others.

For the CR-V, the 2026 lineup adds similar upgrades when compared with the 2025 Honda CR-V. This larger SUV also now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and device charging. The same upgraded 9-inch touchscreen display in the HR-V is now a standard perk in the CR-V, too. Certain trims have an upgraded 10.2-inch fully digital instrument display, and the new TrailSport Hybrid trim level adds rugged, off-road-ready touches to this already versatile sport-ute.

2026 Honda HR-V Review vs. Honda CR-V Review: An Overview of Accolades

2026 Honda HR-V Review vs. Honda CR-V Review: An Overview of Accolades

The Honda HR-V is classified as a subcompact SUV, while its CR-V stablemate is designated as a compact sport-ute. Experts frequently praise both the CR-V and HR-V, but if a more prestigious trophy cabinet matters to you as you compare them, the Honda CR-V pulls ahead.

At the time of writing, the Honda CR-V is ranked first on the most recent Kelley Blue Book® list of best compact SUVs.1 Meanwhile, Kelley Blue Book® awarded the Honda HR-V a fifth-place ranking on their 2025 list of the best subcompact SUVs.2

Car and Driver also granted the Honda CR-V a prestigious first-place rating on their most recent list of best compact SUVs.3 If you're looking to compare the 2025 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V, the 2025 models are the most recently rated – we expect the 2026 models to earn similar (or even more coveted, in the case of the HR-V) awards as independent organizations begin to review automobiles from the new model year.

2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Performance & MPG Specs Image 1 2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Performance & MPG Specs Image 2

2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Performance & MPG Specs

Power and MPG performance is a quick battle when comparing Honda HR-V vs. CR-V models. The CR-V provides more output, a higher towing capacity – the HR-V isn't rated for towing – and better fuel efficiency. If you plan to take any trips with a lightweight boat to, say, Matagorda Bay near Port Lavaca, TX, the CR-V is for you.

However, please keep in mind that the Honda HR-V's starting price is more affordable by several thousand dollars; it's also a lot more agile to drive on tight streets and easier to park in the city. You can see this in turning radius measurements: The CR-V's tightest turning circle is 37 feet, while certain HR-V trims have a turning diameter of 35.1 feet.

The CR-V comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, making 190 horsepower, while the HR-V has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower. Both models have a CVT transmission, standard two-wheel drive, and available Real Time AWD. One thing the HR-V doesn't offer that CR-V does is an available hybrid powertrain – opt for this with the CR-V, and your output increases.

According to independent testing, Honda HR-V vs. CR-V 0-60 acceleration is another win for the CR-V, even when you don't consider its quicker mild-hybrid variant. The non-hybrid CR-V reached 60 mph from a standstill in 8.7 seconds,4 while the HR-V took 9.4 seconds to make the same dash.5

Finally, let's look at fuel efficiency ratings. The 2WD gas-only CR-V delivers an EPA-estimated 28/33/30 MPG (City/Highway/Combined),6 while the HR-V with the same drivetrain earns an EPA-estimated 26/32/28 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).6 Once you consider the CR-V's hybrid fuel rating – up to an EPA-estimated 43/36/40 MPG (City/Highway/Combined)6 – the comparison, unfortunately, isn't very close.

No matter which of these small crossovers you decide to take home, our Honda HR-V and Honda CR-V service center can keep your model road-ready for years to come. If you're still deciding, check out the chart below for more detailed specs information, and then continue reading to learn about each SUV's exterior, interior, and safety appointments.

2026 Honda CR-V Versus HR-V Interior & Exterior Design

2026 Honda CR-V Versus HR-V Interior & Exterior Design

The CR-V and HR-V have different exterior designs but nearly identical interior styling. They both have a spacious layout with modern design cues, like a stylish central trim panel containing semi-hidden air vents, a floating dash-mounted infotainment touch screen, and versatile door and center console storage.

Regarding design, the most significant differences between Honda HR-V vs. CR-V interiors are the center console design and door panels, as the CR-V uses a more angular center console and door panel design. On the other hand, the HR-V has a curvier style in these areas.

For interior cargo space and passenger volume, the larger CR-V naturally has more, as you will see in the chart below, but that means the HR-V wins when it comes to excellent maneuverability.

Each model has a unique personality on the outside. Reminiscent of its interior, the HR-V exterior is more rounded, while the CR-V is sharper and more angular. There isn't an objective measure for who wins here – comparing Honda HR-V vs. CR-V designs could well be a personal decision based on your taste and lifestyle needs.

2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Comfort & Convenience Features

2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Comfort & Convenience Features

Shop new CR-V models or lease an HR-V, and powerful features will await your command. Both models offer you the latest across every category, but as the CR-V does have a higher starting price, it comes with some extra benefits to discover. To compare what you get, here's a look into the Honda HR-V vs. CR-V features; the HR-V is up first with the following available amenities:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control system
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Heated front seats
  • 8-way power driver's seat
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • One-touch power moonroof
  • Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock

The CR-V has many of the same available appointments as the HR-V but exceeds the smaller model with a 10-way power driver's seat, a power front passenger's seat, and a power tailgate on the menu. However, the lower starting price of the HR-V can make accessing the available amenities that these models do have in common more affordable.

2026 Honda HR-V vs. CR-V Technology & Safety Features

Continuing with the same lightning round of Honda HR-V vs. CR-V features, let's examine the standard technologies that you can find as you shop new HR-V SUVs:

  • Two USB-C charging ports and one USB-C data port
  • Crisp 180-watt audio system with four speakers
  • Responsive 9-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless phone charger
  • Well-designed 7-inch driver information interface screen
  • HondaLink remote features

Higher trims of the HR-V offer a six- or eight-speaker audio system.

Standard benefits like wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ can be found in either model, but the more expensive CR-V once again exceeds the HR-V by offering more premium available amenities, including a Bose® sound system with 12 speakers, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. If you're the type of driver who just wants the basics, the HR-V provides exceptional value – if you prefer the bells and whistles, you'll want to go for the CR-V.

Onto the last and perhaps most important, let's see what the Honda Sensing driver-assistance provides for each automobile, beginning with the HR-V:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Traffic Jam Assist
  • Traffic Sign Recognition System
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights

Both SUVs have the same standard safety features with the Honda Sensing driver-support suite, and this is a huge win for both models, especially the HR-V. These safety features are often desirable and pricey options or simply unavailable on a subcompact SUV. Sharing the larger CR-V's safety features makes it a powerful player in the segment.

I've never been to a dealership but I've heard about the stigma of them and how they will try to take advantage of you. I had my guard up at first but Jason, Carlos, Gio and the whole Bravo Honda crew made me instantly feel comfortable. They genuinely wanted what was best for the client and they helped me out more then I ever thought a dealership would. I will only be buying cars from here and I will refer everyone that is in the market for a new car here. These guys are the best and they went above and beyond with their service.

I was lucky enough to happen upon Andrew Davis at Bravo Honda, when he met me in the lot while I was looking at a car. He was the best salesman I have ever purchased a car from and I’ve bought 8 or 9 cars so far. He wasn’t pushy at all and allowed me all the time in the world to drive all the cars I wanted! I think we drove 6 or 7 cars and I test drove the one I decided to get 4 times before actually buying! He was even okay with me hooking up my code reader to make sure there wasn’t any stored or permanent codes on the vehicle and actually complimented me and said that was a smart thing to do when buying a used vehicle! He was super patient and so very empathetic when I expressed my apprehension about increasing my debt. He said something to the effect of I totally understand, it is a lot of money and a big decision. He did not push me inside like most do when you show the tiniest bit of interest in a vehicle. I was the one who said yeah that’s the one I want, let’s see if we can make the numbers work. He didn’t even ask for the sale until we had an agreed price which was SOOOO refreshing! He didn’t rush me while speaking with my husband, overall 10 out of 10 salesman. I will 1,000% go to wherever he is working and try to get a vehicle from him next time we purchase another vehicle! This is the first time I have not had “buyers remorse” the day after purchasing a vehicle!! Thank you so much Andrew Davis!! Now regarding the dealership, the price on the windshield was 1K less than what they had online and what was originally brought out on the first offer. The taxes were not calculated correctly and when I questioned the tax amount, Andrew took it back to the sales manager to ask how they got that amount. Then a different formatted price sheet was brought out the rest of the time and Andrew said he wasn’t sure why the other format’s taxes weren’t right. I think the dealership is doing this on purpose, as this was an extra $1500 of “taxes”. And the an extra 1k added so it seems like you’re getting a better deal, and the bravo protection package is stupid bc they supposedly spray this stuff on the car and interior (which they probably don’t even do) and fill the tires with nitrogen and they can’t go any lower for the spray and nitrogen than $798 bc “that’s how much it cost them”. They should include that in the vehicle price or give the customer the option to add that crap on if they want it. So a bit of classic deception when numbers came into play by sales managers, but overall it’s about the exact amount of deception I’ve come to expect from dealerships over the years.
